Holdings and
collections:
The scientific library supports central purposes of the German Leather Museum: research, presentation and educational work of the collection relating to the material leather. Beside monographs, illustrated books, exhibition and product catalogues, encyclopedias, manuals and bibliographies form the core of the holdings, which currently include more than 8,000 media.

According to the emphasis of the DLM’s collection, there is specialist literature on the following topics: leather and related materials, leather trade and industry, Offenbach leather history, applied arts, design, fashion history, shoe design and history, and ethnology.

It also provides core literature and reference books in related fields of research like restoration, textile and costume studies, art history as well as cultural and museum studies. In addition, the library has literature on specialist areas such as (leather) binding art and shadow theater. There is also an extensive international collection of both historical and current journals from the end of the 19th century to the present day.

As a reference library, the holdings cannot be lent, but can be viewed on site for research purposes after prior registration. It is also possible to make copies by arrangement.
