Holdings and
specialist collections:
With some 30,000 individual media materials, the Archiv Frau und Musik is the world’s largest archive of international female composers. The collection focuses on the musical compositions and other artistic achievements of women musicians and includes secondary literature, university publications, press reviews and grey literature such as concert programmes. The archive also includes a wide range of recordings of published works, radio broadcasts and private recordings of concerts as well as DVD and video recordings.

Among the jewels of the archive is the collection of first-edition prints, mainly from the nineteenth century, and letters written by Clara Schumann. In addition to classical compositions, there is also a special collection dedicated to the fields of rock, pop, jazz, chanson and world music.
